Activities in Heraklion


Shopping:  In the main street of Heraklion you can find a variety of traditional products, souvenirs, clothes, restaurants etc. Heraklion after all is the biggest city in Crete.

Excursions: from many travel agencies in town you can find excursions towards Rethymno, Chania destinations or Knossos and Phaistos ancient buildings among a big variety.

Boat Excursions: With daily ferries, during the tourism season (April-October), they visit the beautiful island of Spinalonga. There is a one-day tour to Santorini island available. Also other seasonal boats are available.

Swimming: Enjoy the sandy beaches of the North Heraklion: Agia Pelagia, Amnissos, Amoudara, Analipsi, Hersonisos, Kalamaki, Karteros, Gouves, Lygaria, Malia, Paleokastro, Stalida, Kokkini Hani. Also if you prefer the not so crowded south Crete then you can visit the beaches of Komos, Tympaki, Matala.

Waking: A variety of walks towards all the country of Crete are available. Travel along mule-paths, down to riverbeds and along stony mountain-paths.

Golf: The Crete Golf Club, 30 km SE from Heraklion is an impressive 18-hole golf course.

Water Park: The Aqua Splash water park is open to the public, about 30 km East from Heraklion.

Agios Nikolaos
